This paper present the results of experimental investigations on the potentials of scale formation
and permeability damage due to sea water injection in a Persian Gulf oil reservoir.
In water injection projects, using sea waters, the exestence of different ions in injected water
and in formation water can cause production of different scales such as Barium Sulfates,
water with Mirsherif formation water of Siri oil
Strontium Sulfates, Calcium Sulfates and Carbonates.
reservoir in Pesian Gulf was investigated.
Depending on their respective composition, the injected sea water might exibit various
The study revealed that due to the injection of sea water, both Strontium Sulfate and Calcium
Carbonates are formad which cause plugging of reservoir pores and reduction of permeability. The effects of temperature and mixing ratio of sea water to formation water were also studied.
The testing systems used in the study, utilized a new design for distribution face of the cores.
This design produced more realistic mixing zone for waters and circumvented the dificulties
experienced by previous researchers
