Abstract

The stress distribution under square, rectangular and circular foundations has been
determined using the Boussinesq and Westergaard theories, assuming the foundation material as an
ideal elastic mass. In this work, the problem has been solved for a foundation of geometrically irrigular, by dividing it into several triangles and giving a solution for triangular shapes. Finally, a
series of influence charts has been prepared for various triangles. The problem has also been
solved for rightangles, as a special case.
