With the available technology and the existing knowledge of the basic laws of energy
conversion, the nuclear energy is believed to be the only source that can provide the energy needs
of the future. In this article the different nuclear reactor types and the nuclear fuel of the power
reactors are reviewed. At present the selection of the power plant design is a relatively simple task,
but the power level, safety aspects, and the management of the nuclear fuel and its related
industries are the major problems of nuclear industry.
