Effect of Ibbiog io Bending and Tortitnal Resistance of Box Tupe Structures.

Abstract

In his paper the effect of ribbing in bending
And tortional resisance of the box type structure is Discussed .
For satisfactory design of press structures . the stiffness characteristics of individual components are recognised to be of primary importance.
Heavy press stucures are normaly constructed in double-sided form . because of transportation and handing problems , these frames are usually
broken into four pieces (bed, columns, and crown)
which are tied to each other by means of four tie
rods. These four parts are of box type structure
and different methods of ribbing are used to
reinforce them.
In this research a thin walled box type model
has been considered as the base model. Different
forms of ribbing have been used to reinforce the
base model. As a result, different models have
been formed. These models have been subjected
to both bending and tortional loads. Considering a
suitable boundary condition, models have been
analysed using finite element method. Having the
results of these analyses, displacements of some
typical points in different models have been
compared. These comparisons have been done
through suitable curves and bar charts. Besiders ,
displacements have been shown graphically.
The Results of this paper can be used, as a
guideline, in designing the machine tool
structures, specially press structures.
