Salt Water Intrusion in the Coastal Aquifers of the Caspian Sea

Abstract

Salt water intrusion into coastal aquifers produces a seperative surface
dividing salt from fresh water in the aquifers. This surface is caned a «fresh and
salt water interface». The surface is not stable due to fluctuations in the water
table or the picometric surface. The location and movements of the interface
should be accurately studied in order to make the best use of the ground water
reservoirs in the coastal aquifers.
In this article salt water intrusion and the approximate location of the
interface in the coastal aquifers of the Caspian Sea are briefly discussed.
