Porphyry Copper Deposns

Abstract

The general characteristics of porphry copper deposits are first outlined emphasizing the disseminated occurrence of the ore minerals , the low grade and the huge size of such deposits. The economic significance of open -pit exploitation of such mines (e.g. the Sar Cheshmeh deposit in Iran) is stated and it is mentioned that the ore should be processed on the site.
Then some more details about these deposits are given under the following headings:
I -Intrusive rocks. 2- Country rocks. 3 - Mineralised rocks.
4 – Hydrothermal alterations. 5 -Relationship between the ore minerals and the hydrothermal alteration. 6 -Zoning in porphyry copper deposits. 7- A discussion of the origin of such deposits. 8 - Supergene enrichment. 9 - The use of geochemical methods for the exploration of porphyry copper deposits.
