Abstract

Liquid polysuiphide is one of the polymers widely used as a sealent in the industry.The most important factors determining the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of polysulphide sealents are their cure system and temperature. There are various cure systems for liquid polysuiphides. The most suitable cure system is chosen by the robber compound composition and the final use of the product. Magnesium dioxide lead peroxide and sodium dichromate are used as cure agents for liquid polysulphide. Magnesim dioxide is also used as a cure agent for liquid polysulphide sealers in airplane fuel tank. In these two part sealers the composition of the formulation is the most important parameter for optimum results.
A study on the effect of these sealers composition on their physical and mechanical properties shows that each component can have different effect on these properties according to their cure system. In this investigation the experimental results for physical and mechanical properties of polysulphide sealers samples were analyzed by Tagouchi method. Finally a cure system which gives the optimum physical and mechanical properties is suggested.
