Abstract

This paper introduces a novel method that enhances the heat transfer from a given surface by using an array of porous fins under laminar force convection. It is found that using porous fin increase the fin performance compared to solid fin and more enhancement in the fin performance may be achieved as porosity increases and also an improvement in the heat transfer coefficient cause much increase in the porous fin performance as compared to the improvement in the conventional fin performance until it reaches to a constant value. It is shown that the Nusselt number decreases as the injection velocity increases and then Nusselt number increases as the injection velocity decreases until it reaches a constant value that depend on fin length and thermal conductivity ratio. Also it is found that Nusselt number increases as the fin length increases.
