The Mission studied the seismicity of Iran and her vicinity and investigated
the destructive earthquakes of this country wich had taken place very
lately. Through these investigations, we were able to know the general tendency
of the occurrence of earthquakes in this country. This tendency shows us that
in the future, it is quite possible for a major earthquake to strike and damage
the great city of Tehran.
Through the same investigation, we also discoverd that the damage of
houses is enlarged when they are built on the soft alluvium-
The study of the vibration of the ground during an earthquake and its
effect on buildings and other structures has been developed rapidly in these ten
years in Japan and in the United State. This is a new branch of science called
«Engineering Seismology» wich has been established by the cooperation of seismologists
and engineers. It is desirable that such studies will be conducted in
this country too.
