Abstract

Deformation of austenite before or during the transformation has widely changed the characteristics of subsequent transformation, the morphology of new
2
phases and mechanical properties of steels. The amount and mechanism of
these variations are dependent on the
temperature and degree of deformation. In this study, two Cr and Mo HSLA steels containing different amounts of carbon (0.15 & 0.3%C) were used and the effects of austenite deformation in the single-phase region on its subsequent isothermal transformation to bainite were investigated. The results showed that the deformation in the non-recrystallization region greatly affected the bainite transformation (i.e. Kinetic of
transformation, morphology of bainite and mechanical properties of steel). The morphology of bainite and its related mechanical properties, however, wasn't markedly changed even after 30%
deformation in the recrystallization region.
