Abstract

Column flotation is one of the
enrichment methods which have been
developed in a great deal in recent years due to
a higher performance and less operating costs.
In this method which is based on the
movement of hydrophobic particles upward in
a tall column, the recovery is improved. Also
wash water introduced at the top of the column
which cleans the froth will increase the grade.
Adopting improved control will cause a better
outcome for this process. However, this is
difficult to achieve due to the lack of high
accuracy measuring devices as well as
complicated mathematical relationships among
acting parameters of the cell and also
unpredictable outcomes caused by interactions
between different parts of the cell. In this
article, fuzzy logic is used to control one of the
parameters of the process, froth depth, and for
instrumentation of a laboratory column cell.
Using fhzzy logic as a controlling tool and
wash water to clean the froth, recovery and
grade were improved 23.39% and 43.28%
respectively for a copper sulphide sample used
in this study.
