The geophysical studies (IP, Rs and M) have been carried out in the region of
Sonagil located at 15 kilometers east of the city of Harris, in the Eastern Azarbayjan province.
The main rock types are highly altered tuffs
and andesite. In the initial studies, porphyritic
copper has been recognized as the probable ore
mineral.
Magnetic method has been applied to study
structural geology and intrusive bodies which
could be the origin of mineralization in this
region. According to the results obtained from
magnetic data, three zones have been
recognized having high magnetic fields, which
is probably due to the existence of andesites.
To study the shape and depth of andesitic
rocks, the Euler deconvolution has been used.
The geoelectrical studies consisted of induced
polarization and resistivity. The inversion
modeling was applied to process the IP and Rs
data. Finally, based on the anomalies obtained
from the geophysical methods, the location of
drilling and areas for development of
exploration in future were proposed.
