d' equilibre .
L 'arret d'infiltration des eaux usees, par suite de mise en oeuvre du reseau d'egout et un captage annuel d'environ 170 millions de m3 des eaux souterraines, prevues pour 1a consomma;

New Applications of Pickett's Equation

Pickett 's equation for limited layer adsorption, which is simpler than the original three parameter
BET equation, is derived with new assumptions. After dividnig the surface of an adsorbent into external and in tern al areas, we can apply the new equation only to the intern al Surface
where the number of layers of the adsorbate can not exceed n. The two _ parameter .
- layer Bet equation is obviously applicable to the extern al surface area .
After obtaining V and C in the usual manner, n is estimated graphically by plotting a logarithmic transform against colog x . Then V . external monolayer capacity, is computed by
assimilating a derived expression to a par a bola .
The strict applicabilixy of Pickett 's equation to the volumes of gas adsorbed internally
IS tested subsequently. To illustrate, an example of numerical calculations is given by using the
experimental data that we obtained for the adsorption isotherm of 0 2 on Woolly Albestos at - 184°,4 C.

Lower Cretaceous in Iran

At the boundary between Jurassic and Cretaceous, because of Late Kimmerian movements, the sea ragressed from many areas of North and Cantral Iran, and many continental areas rose,
which included a number of differentiated basins. The boundary between Jurassic and Cretaceous in these parts of Iran is usually marked by a big diastem or by red, clastic and evaporitic sediments. The whole or part of which may be of Neocomian age. Usually. there is also a sharp uncomformity between the Orbitolina limestone and the older formations.
Continuous sedimentation from Jurassic te Cretaceous and marine Sediments of Neocomian age were, until recently, known only in south - southwest ( Zagros) and Northeast (Kopet
Dagh) Iran. New discovries have been made in the western Alborz (Talesh) and southern Sabzewar areas.
Early Kimmerian movements from the late Middle Triassic onwards separated the sedimentary area of south and southwest Iran from that of Central and North Iran- Both of these regions then took different lines of development tectonically and lithologically. The sedimentary basin of Kopet- Dagh has much in common with that of the Zagros. In Barremian and Aptian times an extensive transgression of the sea took place. This may have been one of the biggest in the Iranian Cretaceous. At that time a shallow sea existed over almost the whole of Iranian territory, and uniform Orbitolina limestones were everywhere deposited. The Orbitolina limestones are usually followed by a shaly and ammonitiferous sequence which belongs mostly to the Albian and which has a wide distribution in Northeast , Southwest and Central Iran- Sediments of this age have not been proved with certainty in the Alborz , and possibly they have been eroded as a result of the tectonic movements which took place at the end of the Albian.

Columns with Balcony Loads

This paper deals with the solution of a column with balcony loads. It is intended to determine the expressions for deflections and bending moments of the sections of a column under
the action of transmitted loads from a balcony loaded at its free end by a force «p» and rigidly connected to the column somewhere between its ends.
The action of this load on the column is equivalent to that of the intermediate compre_ssion force « P» and that of the moment «Pe» applied at the conjunction of the balcony and the
column. The eccentricity « e s of the force « p» indicates the length of the balcony.
As far as the author of this article has investigated, this problem has not been previously treated in any technical literature ; however its lengthy solution is a straight. forward one.
It seems that, in the past, the designers were probably satisfied with the application of
the inexact, but simple combined stress formula, in this respect. No doubt that this kind of
computation of stresses in this problem may, some time, lead to some erroneous results which
should be avoided.
Therefore, a more rigorous solution, especially in this time of optimum design, is in order.
Although, this solution is lengthy, answers can be found «painlessly» with the electronic computer.
The nature of this problem is so that, it can be considered as a beam _column problem.
First of all the Euler - Bernoulli's differential equations for the top and the bottom segments of
the column are written and the expressions for deflections are obtained. Then, the boundary conditions and the continuity of the deflections and slopes at the point. of application of the balcony loads are taken into account and the constants of integration are calculated. At this point, the discontinuity in the curvatures is also verified, and the expression for the deflection of the column is given.
In this way it is possible to find the exact values of deflection, bending moment and shear force any secrion of the column, as explained in this paper.
With the help of the electronic computer of Tehran University, the author has obtained many figures, based on the variation of Some parameters, and it is the intention of the writer in
a time opportune to draw some graphs for deflections and bending moments of sections of the
column, in order to facilitate the task of the structural designers,
At the end, the solutions of Some particular cases are derived from the general solution , and the criteria for the computation of buckling load in a column with intermediate compression
forces, I. C. when e = 0 but E 0 , has resulted.
